Guava leaves are typically oblong or oval in shape, measuring 7-15 centimeters in length and 3-5 centimeters in width. They have an opposite arrangement, meaning two leaves grow at the same point on either side of the stem, with short petioles connecting them to the stem. The deep green leaves have a wide, leathery texture and feature faint white veins as well as some light brown patches. When crushed, guava leaves release a pleasant aroma reminiscent of the fruit itself. They grow on small trees characterized by their broad branches and distinctive copper-colored bark that flakes off to reveal a green base.

How to use:

Hot Infusion:

To prepare dried herbs or flowers, combine 2-3 tablespoons of the dried material in a cup or teapot. Pour hot water over it, then cover and let steep for 10-30 minutes. Hot water is necessary to extract antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins, flavonoids, and volatile oils from the botanicals. Strain and press out as much liquid as possible before serving.

Tips:

  • Herbal teas can be sweetened using a variety of options, including honey, natural fruit juices, Stevia leaf powder, and licorice root powder.
  • Freeze tea in an ice tray or pop mold to create ice cubes or pops.
