Epsom salt is a natural mineral compound composed of magnesium sulfate, with a wide range of applications. Its uses are varied and well-documented, spanning health, beauty, household maintenance, and garden care. Originally derived from mineral-rich waters, Epsom salt is now primarily extracted through mining operations.
Epsom salt is named after a bitter saline spring in Surrey, England, where it was first extracted from water. This versatile compound has been used for centuries to treat various health issues and also provides numerous benefits for beauty care, gardening, and household use.
Epsom salt contains high amounts of magnesium and sulfate. Research indicates that while these nutrients may not be well-absorbed orally, bathing in an Epsom salt solution can still increase magnesium levels due to efficient absorption through the skin.
Epsom salt is not the same as regular table salt. It's a naturally occurring mineral compound made up of magnesium and sulfate. While its appearance may be similar to table salt due to its small, colorless crystals, it has distinct differences in composition. Unlike table salt, which is primarily sodium chloride, Epsom salt consists of magnesium and sulfate.
All Epsom salts on the market are essentially identical in terms of their chemical composition.
