Large Plantain. This herbaceous perennial plant grows close to the ground in a rosette shape, forming dark green leaves that are oval in shape and have smooth margins. Each leaf is 2-4 inches long and 1.5-3 inches wide, with about 5 parallel veins on its upper surface. The lower surface of each leaf is light green and may be finely hairy along the veins. The plant produces dense spikes of flowers that are less than 1 cm thick and 5-25 cm long. These spikes are green-brown in color and smooth to the touch. Each flower is small, measuring only 3 mm in length, and consists of four green sepals, a single white style, four pale purple anthers, and a papery corolla with four spreading lobes. The flowers are pollinated by wind and eventually give rise to seed capsules that are initially green but later turn purple or brown. Each capsule is about 3 mm long and contains 10-15 seeds. The seeds themselves are small, measuring 1-2 mm in length, and have a finely reticulated surface. The plant's root system consists of a short crown with fibrous roots that grow close to the ground.

How to use:

Hot Infusion:

To prepare dried herbs or flowers, combine 2-3 tablespoons of the dried material in a cup or teapot. Pour hot water over it, then cover and let steep for 10-30 minutes. This process releases the antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins, flavonoids, and volatile oils from the botanicals into the liquid. Strain and press out as much liquid as possible before serving.

Tips:

  • Herbal teas can be sweetened using honey, natural fruit juice, stevia leaf powder, or licorice root powder.
  • Freeze tea in ice trays to create ice cubes or use a pop mold to make frozen tea pops.

Precautions:

Before using this herbal product, consult a qualified healthcare professional if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication.
